Australian Phone Number Changes

        (When you can't get through to an Australian phone or fax!)

        In order to cause as much confusion as possible Australian phone numbers have been progressively changed to 8 digits . From February 1998 none of the old number will work! (the last six-month changeover period will expire). There is a recorded message explaining the new number but this does not help much if you are sending a fax . The following is based on Austel's guide to the changes, modified for international calls:
